Canon continues to support schools to utilize wind energy, extending its “Clean Energy for Green World” project

Canon Marketing (Thailand) Co.,Ltd. extends its “Clean Energy for Green World” project by donating its first wind turbine for 2010, to Baan Chay Talay School, Amphoe Pak Phanang, Nakorn Si Thammarat Province, for its use in the school library. The company has also joined hands with volunteer students from Valailak University in an effort to improve the library and school environment, including improving student’s skills in various aspects.

Ms. Rochanun Poemcharoen, Assistant Manager, Corporate Communications, Canon Marketing (Thailand) Co., Ltd said “Last year we completed electricity-generated wind turbines installation in 15 schools. We received very good feed back from the schools. The electricity generated by the wind turbines is utilized by the electrical equipment used by the school, and thus reduces the school’s expenses. This has given school children more opportunities to study in the library. The wind turbines also serve as learning tool, providing children and local communities with real life experiences. In 2010, Canon extends the project by giving four more electricity-generated wind turbines to schools in four regions. Today, the school to receive the wind turbine is Baan Chay Talay School in Amphoe Pak Phanang, Nakorn Si Thammarat Province. Research has shown that Nakorn Sri Thammarat Province is one of the most suitable provinces for wind turbine installation”

In 2010, Canon will donate four wind turbines to schools in 4 regions in its “Clean Energy for Clean World” project.
These schools are:

South: Baan Chay Talay School, Tumbon East Pak Phanang, Amphoe Pak Phanang, Nakhon Si Thammarat
East: Wat Bang Pitlang School, Tumbon Bang Pit, Laemngop, Trat
North: Baan Huai Maipaen School, Tumbon Mahawan, Aumphoe Mae Sot, Tak
North East: Baan Buhom School, Tumbon Bu Hom, Aumphoe Chiangkhan, Loei

From the start of the project until the end of 2010, Canon will have installed wind turbines in 19 schools.

Another important activity for this year concerns Canon’s support for student volunteers from local institutions to join hands with schools and their local communities to improve the school’s library’s environment, improve knowledge on alternative energy through various activities, and promote skills in art and healthcare. Moreover, experts will be invited to give lectures to students on clean energy from wind turbines.

The schools selected for wind turbine installations will have to meet Canon’s requirements which include the schools possessing the necessary geographical properties, namely that they possess the required two metres per second wind speed, have sufficient grounds with no structures obstructing the wind path and that they operate libraries using electrical power compatible with the generation of one kilowatt of electricity from wind turbines. The school welcomes Canon to join them in providing learning opportunities from real experience for students and the local community.

The power generated from the wind turbine will be utilized in the “Clean Energy Library by Canon”. Using electricity generated from a 1000 Watts wind turbine could cut electricity expenses for schools by 6,000 baht every year (calculated from four baht per unit electricity charge). The Wind turbines will also serve as educational tools for students to learn about how a wind turbine works and about the benefits of clean energy.

Wind is an invisible source of energy that you can only feel and yet it is an energy that mankind could utilize to bring great benefits to the world and society. There are numerous advantages to wind energy including the fact that it is clean, produces no unwanted residues or pollutants and is supplied by Mother Nature – free of charge. It is also readily available, with an average 15-20 hours of wind per day. This is the energy that has minimal maintenance cost and a truly worthwhile choice for Thailand to develop for sustainably.
