Perfact Copy
services (now Perfact Color Digital Prints Pvt.
Ltd.) opened its doors 12 years ago, with a startup
capital of Rs.500,000. Today, Perfact has a 70-
strong team consisting of motivated and talented
graphic designers and well-qualified team leaders
holding MBAs. Its annual turnover has grown to
Rs.100 million.
Perfact is a
documentation service provider to a slew of major
clients, such as the Confederation of Indian Industry
(CII), the Max New York Life Insurance Co. Ltd.
(MNYL), the National Institute of Sales (NIS)
and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). Perfact
focuses on customised printing of conference documentation,
tutorials, user manuals, brochures and project
reports. Recently, the company also took the plunge
into the rapidly expanding market of outdoor poster
printing.
It has a strong
infrastructure in that it owns its own building
and equipment and employs its own manpower. The
company’s directors, Mr. Ashwani Arya and
Mr. R B Jain are both electrical engineers and
have previous experience working for Xerox.
Perfact’s
needs are typical to any outsourcing documentation
company:
- To meet a
print or photocopy volume of almost 100,000
daily.
- Color printing
requirement to the tune of 1,000 copies per
day.
- Poster printing on heavy paper of up to 500
posters a day.
- No time allowance
for breakdowns.
- Short deadlines.
The need to
meet these requirements was vital, as Perfact’s
printing and copying requirements were growing
by leaps and bounds.
Perfact faced
several challenges. First, the Xerox products
they were using; DC-470, DC-12 and 3030, could
only process up to 50,000 copies per day.
Second, color
printing was very expensive and time-consuming.
At times, some of the printouts were wrong. The
current machines have no preview facility and
so the machine operator could not stop the incorrect
printouts before physically printing them.
Third, the print
jobs were handled by a computer operator sitting
in the office with machine operators. Since the
machine operators were not familiar with the workings
of the computer, the computer operator had no
choice but to stay with the machine operators,
working late hours and being paid extra time.
Canon proposed
several solutions to improve the situation.
BJW
7200:
Perfact opted for the BJW 7200 wideformat printer.
These machines not only produce high quality work,
but they are able to do it fast. As a result,
Perfact was able to process and create about 250
posters per day. The company is now also using
the machine for printing large posters for outdoors
and has even begun attracting large companies
for these jobs. Because of this single machine,
Perfact has been able to bring in an extra Rs.500,000
per month, offering customers large posters.
Two
imageRUNNER 105: With a print speed of 105 pages per minute
per unit, two units of imageRUNNER 105 combined
enabled Perfact to produce more than 1 lakh (100,000)
copies per day without breakdowns. This helped
Perfact to increase its billing to customers and
turnover doubled in just one year.

imageRUNNER
C3200: Looking at the increasing color requirement,
Canon proposed the machine imageRUNNER C3200 which
was capable of handling about 3,500 prints per
day at the high speed of 32 prints per minute.
This speed enabled them to meet customer demand
for quick turnaround time of color documents.
Mail
Box Utility:
The mailbox feature on the imageRUNNERs has streamlined
Perfact’s printing process to reduce cost,
increase efficiency and security.
First, the computer
operator stores the print jobs in the imageRUNNERs’
mailbox where the machine operator can preview
and print the document later. Thus, the computer
operator does not have to be in the office to
send print jobs to the machine operator, resulting
in shorter working hours. The computer operator’s
salary is, therefore, reduced substantially.
Second, the
mailbox’s print preview facility on the
imageRUNNERs has also enabled the machine operators
to stop unwanted prints and thus reduced the printing
cost considerably.
Third, with
mailbox facility, even the operators could print
the jobs without engaging the computer, thus increasing
the security of the data in the computer.
Decreased
Downtime and Increased Reliability:
The time saved by these faster machines resulted
in shorter working hours and thus lower salary
payout to employees. Perfact has also become more
consistent as the machine breakdown time is much
shorter. This consistency has enhanced Perfact’s
reputation and the company is now able to confidently
bid for more business from existing customers
as well as bid for new customers.
Perfact is confident
of Canon technology and is ready to go with more
Canon products to meet its sure-to-be-increasing
documentation needs in the near future.
